Media CSR Forum
The "Media corporate social responsibility (CSR) forum" is a group of media organisations developing CSR and sustainability practices and understanding for the UK media sector.
The Forum was established in 2001 following recognition that the practice of CSR and sustainability for media companies has many unique features that sets it apart from traditional industry and other business sectors, some of which could benefit from a collaborative approach. Our work includes:
- developing an understanding of the implications of CSR for media organisations
- identifying areas for prioritisation
- sharing best practices
- engaging with stakeholders
- running collaborative projects on key issues
In 2003 the forum commissioned a stakeholder engagement exercise in order to validate the focus areas for the group. Some of these areas have unique implications to the sector. These include: diversity of output, accessibility, security, privacy, freedom of expression, creative independence, transparency of process, impartiality and balance, and media literacy.
We have recently undertaken a new stakeholder survey. The report looked to identify the main corporate social responsibility issues the forum members and media industry in general face and how these relate to the industry specifically.
